Petra Kvitova started the season with a title! She triumphed in the tournament in Sydney, after the final with Karolina Pliskova 7:6 (5), 7:6 (6).
The match between them continued nearly two hours and with this title Kvitova gets theoretical chances to lead the WTA rankings after the Australian Open.
Pliskova started the match by breaking in 5:4 served for the first set. Kvitova broke back and then pulled the first part in a tiebreak.
They exchanged a break in the second set, which was also solved by additional game. Kvitova showed better nerves in the tiebreak, which ensure her triumph.
Kvitova ended the match with 38 winner hits in her account and 30 unforced errors. Pliskova recorded 20 winner hits and 21 errors.
